Lollapalooza 2007: I have arrived

Hey everybody! I'm writing this from a laptop in the AT&T air conditioned tent. I made my way downtown this morning, checked in at the Hard Rock Hotel for an event later on tonight which I'll be covering, and hopped into a cab to the media entrance of Lollapalooza. In the media tent, I guzzled free water, picked out a couple of free SPIN t-shirts, and sat on an Adirondack chair in the shade and smoked a couple of cigarettes.

Now, I'm on my way to check out G. Love in the Kidzapalooza area, then Son Volt, and if I make it all the way back to the media tent by 2:00, I'll be interviewing Slightly Stoopid.

Later on this afternoon, I'll be taking in Peter Himmelman's Kidzapalooza show and interviewing him afterward. Up until I walked through the gate earlier, I was nearly certain that I'd arrive and they'd say "Who?" "What?" and start laughing, while turning me away. That did not happen.

We'll see how this little experiment turns out. I'm hoping to be able to post my interviews and set reviews as the day progresses, but I'm sure this free internet thing won't be as easy to access later, once more people have arrived.

Update!

I watched Peter Himmelman's show for the kids in Kidzapalooza, and then hopped on a golf cart with him for an interview--wowie!

Then sat in The Solutionists--a panel featuring Perry Farrel and some others, and Perry talked about how things have changed since the first Lollapalooza in 1991, the year "the internet was invented," and how the digital age has changed thing for the music scene.

Very cool, and I'll have an article outlining that at some point this weekend.

Brian, I wish one of my surprises was a Pearl Jam interview, but it's not confirmed. Send me the questions anyway, because you never know. ;)

Walt, Muse was booked, but I'll still try to snag them, and I'll definitely be checking out the show.

This is really incredible.

And since my "responsibilities," officially anyway, are over until the next surprise, which is at 10 p.m., I get to go slug several beers. And water, of course.

It's definitely hot, but there's a fantastic breeze off the lake, so if you sit in the shade, it's just this side of heaven.

Thanks for all the well-wishes, my friends. It would be truly awesome if you all were here with me.

More soon... going to watch G. Love and Special Sauce.

And I'm curious, my dear Cash. What is so important that we cannot overlook in order to enjoy great music from several bands, especially considering these were more or less personal differences that have absolutely nothing to do with us as fans?
