Look, I've been talking about planning a VineMeet for months. Actually, it might be years. That's sad.
So, I hereby propose a VineMeet, in Chicago, the weekend before Halloween. That still gives folks a month to plan/arrange flights, etc., without being so far away that I forgot I planned it and fail to show up. That weekend is not set in stone, however, so please pipe up if another weekend is better for you and we'll see if we can't pick the perfect date. That particular weekend isn't exactly ideal for me, as my son has a football game that Saturday night (anyone up for a little junior football action? It's pretty amazing! Plus, the games are only just over an hour long).
The weather in Chicago is still pretty fine at that time, so that shouldn't be a problem. Though we won't be hitting the beach.
There's still plenty to do, however!
Dios de los Muertos exhibit. Though the museum is closer to Little Italy than to Pilsen, we'll have to forgo the Italian food and head to Pilsen for some fine, authentic Mexican.
That's really not even the half of it.
I could go on all day, frankly. I absolutely refuse to host a VineMeet during which all we do is sit around a hotel room or my apartment getting drunk. Sure, we can do some of that. But I'm not going to have a bunch of people come from all over into my city and not make sure they see my city.
But first, let's see if this works for everyone, or for anyone.
We'll need to move quickly, obviously.
So, below in the comments, please RSVP for the 2008 Chicago VineMeet. If this particular weekend doesn't work for you, please note one that will and we'll see how it all works out.
