Every year or so, I announce my plans to arrange a Vinemeet in Chicago. Mostly because I am continually, habitually and cruelly harassed by one Eric Atienza, but also because I'd love to host a Vinemeet in this wonderful city.
The 2009 Vinemeet dates are set–June 12 through June 14. That's the weekend of the Chicago Blues Fest.
As I've stated in previous attempts to get this Chicago Vinemeet thing off the ground, and contrary to any preconceived notions you might be entertaining, I do not wish this Vinemeet to consist of a bunch of people who only know each other from the internet sitting around in a hotel room getting drunk.
Though there will likely be plenty of that.
I'd like us to take in some of the sights and sounds of the city. And some of the tastes. That means we will have a variety of options when it comes to things to do. We can check out the new Modern Wing of the Art Institute. We can check out the music of Blues Fest (see above link). We can go out for some real Chicago pizza. We can engage in celebration of my 40th birthday, which happens just two weeks after the Meet.
The world of Chicago is our proverbial oyster, my friends.
Just say the word. The word is "YES!" I will scout out affordable hotel rooms. I will plan a calendar of events no sane human could possibly cover in one weekend. I will provide for you the funnest weekend of your lives.
